In October of 2019, Governor Tony Evers announced the formation of the Wisconsin Climate Change Task Force. Led by Lt. Governor Barnes, this bi-partisan group represents lawmakers, utilities, agriculture, environmental groups, health officials, and tribes with a goal of developing strategies to help Wisconsin reduce the effects of climate change and reach 100% carbon free electricity generation by 2050.
The Governor, Lt. Governor, and Climate Change Task Force need your input and support to find the best path forward. RENEW has identified three key issues that we feel would have the greatest impact and best chances for success. Join this important effort by signing your name in support of these initiatives!
Third Party Financing
Wisconsin should affirm the legality of third party financed distributed energy resources in order to provide equitable access to renewable energy benefits.
Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
Wisconsin should develop a comprehensive plan for transportation electrification.
Expand Focus on Energy
Wisconsin should facilitate the installation of more renewable energy and energy efficiency measures by expanding the Focus on Energy program.
This petition will be sent to: Governor Evers' Climate Change Task Force
Subject: RENEW Wisconsin Recommendations to the Climate Change Task Force
RENEW Wisconsin and the undersigned members and advocates enthusiastically support the goals and efforts of the Wisconsin Climate Change Task Force.
RENEW Wisconsin plans to work closely with the Task Force to identify recommendations that will have the greatest impact and chance of success. We strongly encourage you to include these three priority issues in your final recommendations:
Third Party Financing • Wisconsin should affirm the legality of third party financed distributed energy resources to allow more Wisconsin residences, businesses, municipalities, schools and nonprofit organizations to install solar and other renewable energy technologies. Financing options, such as leases and service agreements, provide equitable access to renewable energy benefits without incurring debt or contending with significant up-front outlays.
Electric Vehicle Infrastructure • Wisconsin should develop a comprehensive plan for transportation electrification. Using data to identify key electric vehicle corridors, Wisconsin should create a road map of how to build an efficient EV charging infrastructure to best serve those corridors and the rest of the State.
Expand Focus on Energy • Wisconsin should facilitate the installation of more renewable energy and energy efficiency measures by expanding the Focus on Energy program. In addition, Focus on Energy should begin to incorporate carbon reduction metrics into its program. Focus on Energy generates over $5 in benefits for every $1 invested, providing long-term savings for everyone, and keeping energy dollars at home to be spent on local goods and services.
RENEW Wisconsin supports several beneficial ideas being considered by the Task Force, and we will be happy to provide resources and assistance to encourage their adoption.
We look forward to working with Governor Evers, Lt. Governor Barnes and the Task Force to advance this critically important work.
